Men in Black 5 has been reported to be in development at Sony (via Giant Freakin Robot), but the sequel has yet to be officially announced by the studio. However, Sony rarely misses an opportunity to expand a franchise, as evidenced by Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire and their Marvel Comics films. While a new Men in Black movie hasn’t been confirmed, it’s only a matter of time before Sony revisits that universe.
What Happened To The Men In Black/Jump Street Crossover?
When Sony was hacked in 2014, the hackers revealed plans for a crossover film between the Men in Black and 21 Jump Street franchises. This Men in Black–Jump Street crossover could’ve seen Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum’s undercover cops joining forces with MIB to prevent an alien invasion. 22 Jump Street co-writer Rodney Rothman was working on a script for the crossover, but it never came to fruition. Hill and Tatum got preoccupied with other projects, and it likely would’ve been tricky to line up their schedules with the A-list stars of the Men in Black series.
Men In Black 5 Story Details
There’s no official plot synopsis for Men in Black 5, but there are plenty of mind-bending sci-fi concepts from the previous movies that a new sequel could explore. A new Men in Black sequel could use the time travel introduced in Men in Black 3 to go into the future, or it could follow up on Men in Black II’s trippy revelation that the entire human universe exists in a locker at a gigantic alien train station. Alternatively, Men in Black 5 might just follow the trusty franchise formula and introduce a new alien menace whose attempt to invade Earth is thwarted by MIB.
