Transformers 8: War of the Beasts

The Transformers media franchise is produced by the Japanese toy manufacturer Takara Tomy and the American toy company Hasbro. It follows the battles between sentient, autonomous, and intelligent robots—usually the Autobots and the Decepticons—that can transform into various animals and cars. Video games, toys, comic books, animation, and motion pictures are all part of the franchise. As of 2011, the media franchise ranked among the highest-grossing ever, with over ¥2 trillion ($25 billion) in revenue.

Paramount has already confirmed plans for Transformers 8 & 9 to be made after Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, beginning the new trilogy.

Paramount confirmed plans for Transformers 8 and Transformers 9, both of which will take part in the same world as Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. The studio originally launched the Transformers movie franchise in 2007 with Michael Bay directing and Shia LaBeouf starring. After five entries in the main series, Paramount delivered a soft reboot with Bumblebee in 2018, which is followed in the Transformers timeline by the 1994-set Rise of the Beasts.

The future of the Transformers franchise is already set. Paramount announced the future of their movie and TV programming, with the studio announcing that Transformers 8 and Transformers 9 are happening after Transformers: Rise of the Beastsframing them as a new trilogy. There are no additional details at this moment about the two upcoming sequels, such as if Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback will return to star. However, Steven Caple Jr. has said he plans to return as the director. Transformers 8 & 9 also do not have release dates at this time

Confirmation of Transformers 8 & 9 came very early on in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts‘ process and, per the announcement, it’s likely that Transformers 8 will be Transformers: Rise of the Beasts 2. Audiences can most likely expect Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback to return as their characters, while several of the Transformers from that film should be back as well. Based on the timing of this announcement, Paramount had plans to move quickly to get Transformers 8 into production.

The upcoming sequels are currently without release dates, but it is clear that the studio has plans to do more quickly. Still, it is unlikely that Transformers 8 will be released before 2025 at this stage, with Transformers 9 potentially not happening until 2027 or 2028. Capel has said he has plans for what he wants to add to the next movie (via Geek Culture).

I set up a lot of things in this film and, you know… every time we talk about the future, there’s always a lot of ‘we.’ I think there is a way to still feed the fans what they want in Transformers films but also do something cool with another legendary IP, so to speak, that I’ve always been in love with.”

The Transformers Movie Franchise Future After Rise Of The Beasts

Transformers 8 & 9 Aren’t The Only Upcoming Transformers Movies

As exciting as it is that two more live-action Transformers movies are being planned after Rise of the Beasts, the sequels were still dependent on how the Transformers movie performed. In the end, Rise of the Beasts made $438.6 million on a $195 million budget. That ranks as the worst in the entire franchise for box office take (via The Numbers). Critically, it ranks third in the franchise (52%) behind only Bumblebee (91%) and the first Transformers movie (57%) on Rotten Tomatoes.
